11:41 pm - On Hardcore Survival...
Here, we have a real man among men:

None to bright, but possessed of considerable intestinal fortitude!

2:22 am - On Life...
It's been over 30+ weeks since I updated last, as I've largely moved away from LJ on to other stuff.

Anyhow, I got this pointer from my Flist:

http://animalcrossingtragedy.ytmnd.com/

And I thought:

Wow.

And then I wondered - is this real?

And I spend a while searching...

And yeah, it's real(1).

Wow.

[1. it was translated from the original Korean, and even uses the original artwork.]

12:08 am - On Corporate Ethics...
Kudos to MSNBC for doing the right thing.

It's about fucking time someone in a suit laid out actual consequences to those asshole "shock jocks".

Too bad CBS is a bunch of Old Boys Club mostherfuckers who're more interested in protecting their own (see also Dan Rather) than being responsive to the community. I hope that losing MSNBC forces CBS' hand.

7:39 pm - On Celebrity Hair...
So this weekend, Britney Spears shaves her head bald.

Before that Cristina Aguilera went all raven-haired and tangly.

I know that it's all modern to have the drapes match the carpet, where before, we old fogies were only curious to check the color.

So who wants to bet that we next see Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan sporting a short little mohawk to match the racing stripe down below?

:)

8:52 pm - Curse of the Golden Flowers
It's really nice to see a a movie on the big screen when it's designed for the big screen.

I just saw _Curse of the Golden Flowers_, by Zhang Yimou starring Chow Yun Fat and Gong Li, and I really enjoyed it. As always, it's just fun to watch Chow on the screen - he has such magnficent presence as an actor. And it's fun to watch him do a period wuxia martial arts film when that just isn't his background and training. Of course, the sets and costumes and fights are like what you've never seen before.

After the fact, I saw a few critics didn't enjoy it, and I'm chalking their middling reviews up to gross cultural ignorance. Make no mistake, this is a Chinese movie, tuned for Chinese sensibilities. Not ho-hum Hollywood.

It's not likely to be in theatres long, so you really ought to go check it out if it's playing in your area.

And yes, it's subtitled in English for those of you who don't speak Mandarin Chinese.

3:17 am - On Hollywood and Race...
So far:
- Mel Gibson reveals himself to be an Anti-Semite.
- Mike Richards reveals himself to be a black-hater.
- And now Rosie O'Donnell reveals herself to be anti-Asian.

And most of Hollywood stands by idly.

Fuck that.

Fuck Hollywood.

If this is how you really are, we don't need you.

11:29 am - On Superman Returning...
I saw Superman Returns, and WOW, if that wasn't just the best Passion Play I've ever seen!

Superman Returns is, for most intents and purposes, Passion of the Kent:

1. effectively unlimited in power and goodness,
2. here to save man from himself,
3. then to inspire each to become greater than he is.

Then we move to the Passion, and it it's truly impressive for its starkness and brutality. The only downside is that I kept thinking Lobo.

A major negative was seeing it as IMAX 3-D. Normally, IMAX 3-D is great. But Superman Returns had me switch to the 3-D gimmick several times, and that really interrupted the flow of the movie. I want to reach out through the Internet, grab the IMAX 3-D honcho, and smack him upside the head: it's NOT 1950 anymore, good movies don't need gimmicks!

Oh, yeah: it is a LONG movie. Running time is more than 2.6 hours. This requires prep before you sit down: empty bladder, liquid to stay hydrated, and snacks to maintain blood sugar levels.

10:12 pm - On Greed...
I bought Ice Cream this weekend.

It's been probably 2 or 3 months since last I bought, but as luck would have it, Vons has Breyers on sale: $2.99 each.

Cherry Vanilla?

I like Cherry Vanilla, so into the cart it goes.

I get home and start bundling groceries into the fridge.

WTF?!? That doesn't look right...

"1.75 Quarts"

When did Breyers shrink down from a full half-gallon to this demi-pint-sized abomination?

It's not like I wouldn't pay the extra 50 cents, because it's a decent product.

"Same great taste, same low price, JUST A 15% SMALLER CONTAINER"

Screw that noise, I'm done with Breyers.

1:05 pm - On Outsourcing...
Congress today announced that the office of President of the United States of America will be outsourced to India as of April 26th, 2006.

The move is being made to save the President's $500,000 yearly salary, and also a record $521 trillion in deficit expenditures and related overhead the office has incurred during the last 5 years.

"We believe this is a wise move financially. The cost savings should be significant," stated Congressman Thomas Reynolds (R-WA). Reynolds, with the aid of the Government Accounting Office, has studied outsourcing of American jobs extensively. "We cannot expect to remain competitive on the world stage with the current level of cash
outlay," Reynolds noted.

Mr. Bush was informed by email this morning of his termination. Preparations for the job move have been underway for sometime.

Gurvinder Singh of Indus Teleservices, Mumbai, India will be assuming the office of President as of May 1, 2006.

Mr. Singh was born in the United States while his Indian parents were vacationing at Niagara Falls, thus making him eligible for the position. He will receive a salary of $320 (USD) a month but with no health coverage or other benefits. It is believed that Mr. Singh
will be able to handle his job responsibilities without a support staff due to the time difference between the US and India, he will be working primarily at night, when few offices of the US Government will be open.

"Working nights will allow me to keep my day job at the Dell Computer Call Center," stated Mr. Singh in an exclusive interview. "I am excited about this position. I always hoped I would be President."

A Congressional spokesperson noted that while Mr. Singh may not be fully aware of all the issues involved in the office of President, this should not be a problem because Bush was not familiar with the issues either.

Mr. Singh will rely upon a script tree that will enable him to respond effectively to most topics of concern. Using these canned responses, he can address common concerns without having to understand the underlying issues at all. "We know these scripting tools work,"
stated the spokesperson. "President Bush has used them successfully for years."

Bush will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until his final day of employment. Following a two week waiting period, he will be eligible for $140 a week unemployment for 13 weeks. Unfortunately he will not be eligible for Medicaid, as his unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed limit.

Mr. Bush has been provided the outplacement services of Manpower Inc. to help him write a resume and prepare for his up coming job transition.

According to Manpower, Mr. Bush may have difficulties in securing a new position due to limited practical work experience. A greeter position at Wal-Mart was suggested due to Bush's extensive experience shaking hands and goofy smile.

2:50 pm - On Black History Month...
Morgan Freeman has a few words to share

On the one hand, I agree that America should celebrate the contributions and history of all its ethnicities.

On the other, I note it's hard to celebrate what is overlooked and undermentioned far too often than not.

I consider Black / Asian / whatever history month to be a necessary evil until such time as our history demonstrates inclusiveness.

6:04 pm - On Justice...
Justice is served.

A moment of thanks to our Governor for having the courage to affirm the American judicial process. To not knuckle under to inappropriate pressures seeking inhuman perfection from a human system.

A moment of peace for the family he murdered. May they find solace that no other families will suffer so.

May God show him the mercy he showed others.

And fuck Hollywood for valuing 1 murderer with a story over the 4 dead who can't say anything anymore.

Oh Great Cthulhu!

I have been an extremely assiduous devotee this year.

Yesterday, I stopped [info]smilerz from defiling Lovecraft's grave (-20 points). When the stars were right, I prepared an ocean voyage to R'lyeh (200 points). In November, I bombed a cultist gathering (-100 points). In February, I exposed [info]pastaqueen to soul-rending horrors (250 points). In May, I legally changed my name to Randolph Carter (-40 points). In June, I made a burnt offering to the Dead Dreamer (100 points).

In short, I have been very good (390 points) and deserve to be eaten first.

Your humble and obedient servant,

It's about time!

Actually, it's about letting the rest of us know about the retards in our midst when we're out on the road.

I still think that DUI convicts ought to be summarily executed.

So I applaud this idea as a good first step in that direction.

Live action Aquaman on TV?

What were they thinking? Is somebody on drugs? [1]

Batman is cool. Superman is cool. Wonder Woman features her amazing Double Ds in her super-bustier. Flash is cool.

But Aquaman?

Aquaman is the loser boy of the JLA, only one step up from the Power twins.

And then they're going with a TV *series*? Aquaman isn't a series. He's a one-shot. Are they really going to try to have Black Manta as a recurring villian a la Lex Luthor?

Gah. I'd rather watch Martian Manhunter or (a female) Robin.
